Guide aimed at beginners learning the basic mechanics
Early Game
Billy early game is weak, so avoid trading in the middle of the lane. If you are in the side lanes, start by fighting to gain pressure in the mist areas at the edge of the map. If you are contested, activate Blasted to control the area. Use it to farm minions safely until you unlock Bashdown, then use Bashdown to apply lane pressure and deny the enemy farm.
If you are in mid, use the stairs under the bridge to repeat this. Against characters that like close-range fights, such as Abrams, Silver, Calico, etc, you can be a little more aggressive in lane once you unlock Bashdown, but avoid long trades until you unlock Rising Ram. Once you unlock Rising Ram, you will have more freedom to trade in lane. Start playing more aggressively to gain pressure and steal enemy camps. Your early focus in lane is to complete your 4.8k vitality.
Billy is a great frontline, and once you unlock Chain Gang, you can use it to start fights and reposition enemies. Also abuse the movement ability lockout that it provides.
First Power Spike
You always want to be present for objective fights. Billy is not very good at taking structures, but he shines in team fights. Once you complete your 4.8k bullets, you will be very strong and have great resistances. Abuse this to participate in Urn fights. Chain Gang gives you great numbers to withstand enemy spells and return damage. Your purpose in objective fights is to disrupt enemy carries as much as possible, preventing them from shooting or using abilities freely. Focus on applying crowd control and limiting enemy movement. Besides being a frontline, Billy also has great burst damage in quick trades, so abuse this to disrupt enemies.
Basic Combos
Use to poke enemies early in lane phase

lane engage

no melee fast combo

no melee lock combo

With aggressive champions
Coordinate with your lane partner and focus on a single enemy champion. Billy is very aggressive, so take advantage of that to isolate a target and burst them down together. If you use all your abilities to engage, make sure the target dies or can no longer chase you if something goes wrong.
With passive champions
Play patiently and avoid forcing unnecessary fights during the laning phase. Your main priority should be reaching 4.8k green as safely as possible, since the extra survivability will allow you to stay alive longer and provide more value to your team. Focus on farming, controlling the lane, and punishing only clear mistakes from the enemy. This character scales extremely well and can still isolate and eliminate enemy carries even when behind in Souls, so preserving your life and reaching your power spikes is more important than taking early risks
Mid Game
Billy has tremendous destructive potential. His kit works very well in both teamfights and one-on-one situations. If you are behind and need to spend some time in a side lane, you can still threaten low-health carries such as Wraith, Vindicta , Mina, or Graves. By taking advantage of the resistances provided by your ultimate and its ability to disable movement abilities, you can often solo these targets even while significantly behind in souls. Rising Ram gives you strong access to these targets, but be mindful of its recent nerfs.

Team Fights
Billy can approach fights in several different ways because he is a highly flexible character. You can adapt your playstyle depending on your current pace and position in the match. Prioritize targets that allow you to maintain Blasted easily and can be killed quickly. Use Chain Gang to group vulnerable enemies together, then apply heavy crowd control and area damage with Bashdown.
If the fight becomes difficult, use Rising Ram to reposition and wait for your cooldowns to come back. Avoid engaging head-on against heroes who can kill you quickly in teamfights. For example, Wraith is easy to punish in a side lane, but during a teamfight you should avoid exposing yourself too much, as she can deal massive damage and kill you before you can accomplish anything. Be especially careful around Lady Geist ultimate Soul Exchange
When you are behind
Focus on protecting your team’s carry. Chain Gang can stop enemies from escaping while your team disengages, or pull away opponents who are trying to reach your carry. You can also use Scourge on your carry to provide additional support
Mid Boss
Billy is extremely strong in fights around the midboss. Since it is an enclosed area, you can use Chain Gang to group multiple enemies together and gain a significant amount of Unstoppable time, depending on how late the game is. This can be decisive, as it may allow you to steal a Rejuvenator or burst down a carry inside the lair while the rest of your team closes in on the enemy team.
Take full advantage of any favorable entry points into the Mid Boss area. They will briefly reveal the lair, allowing you to identify priority targets and decide how to approach the fight—whether you should attempt to steal the Rejuvenators or fight to buy time for your team. Use that brief window of vision to check enemy positioning, remaining health, important crowd-control abilities, and which opponents are closest to the Rejuvenators.
If your team is dead and your only goal is to steal one or more Rejuvenators, use Chain Gang before entering the lair. This ensures that the Unstoppable effect from your ultimate activates while you are falling or as soon as you land. Always use your ultimate beforehand so you do not have to worry about heroes such as Dynamo, Infernus, or anyone else who can stun you for a long time.effect from triggering. Once Chain Gang has been activated, not even Cursed Relic can prevent your Unstoppable effect from triggering
Once Chain Gang has been activated, not even Cursed Relic can prevent your Unstoppable effect from triggering
Late Game
Avoid fighting near these areas where visibility is limited. Whenever possible, fight in more open spaces or on top of the bridge so enemies have less time to escape Chain Gang. Remember that for every target you fail to pull with the chain, your Unstoppable duration will be shorter.
Do not engage just to absorb damage. Wait for the enemy to use important abilities or movement skills, then look for an angle through the mist. Use Rising Ram to reach the backline and Chain Gang to break the enemy formation. If you catch multiple targets, follow with Bashdown and let your team continue the engage
Against Vindicta, Wraith, Mina, or Graves, you do not always need to secure the kill. Keeping them out of the fight for a few seconds can already be enough to win the teamfight
After using Blasted and Bashdown, do not stay in the middle of the enemy team. Reposition, wait for your cooldowns, and engage again. Billy is much more dangerous when he gets two ability rotations instead of using everything at once and dying
Around Mid Boss or the Patron, save Chain Gang to punish enemies entering narrow areas or trying to escape. In the late game, one good Chain Gang can decide the match
